Seasons 56-58 review

Written by Time Indaiatuba at 12:58 4/11-2021

It’s been 3 seasons since we went 100% Brazilian, so it’s time for a review. Overall, the change has been a success largely due to one man, Douglas Brasil. Without him, we would be far worse.

The first season (S56) was one of transition, spent training our new Brazilians in the search for a captain. We trained some climbing teammates and 2nd tier leadouts, but then got lucky with Brasil. He showed his promise straight away by coming 2nd at Mito - Tokyo and 3rd in the Porto SC before he was even fully trained. He also managed 3rd in Lappi Sea GP, and got top 9s at 2 other classics.

Season 57 was quite special, we achieved more wins (16) and results (23) than we’ve ever got in 1 season before. Brasil was just somehow winning everything, it felt like he was in top form for the whole season. I think this is because we established a strong group of 5 lead out riders, some of whom could have been captains in those races.

In season 57, Brasil took home the Kangaroo Tour GC & YC, the Perm Tour SC, and the Norway Tour SC. He won all but one of the sprint stages in those tours. He also won a bunch of awards at the end of the season.

During that time, we’ve been trying to build a climbing team. We bought the promising Xavier Ortona, but unfortunately, he maxed quite low. So we’re still on the lookout for a better captain.

We entered this last season with 2 goals: Vuelta a Valparaìso SC and Helsinki GP Mini. Both of these could be covered by 1 period of top form, so the first part of the season was spent recharging our sprinters. We won both the jersey and the classic and then started recharging top form again. It was a pretty clinical season I guess, nothing super exciting, but I’m happy that we reached our targets.

Next season is all about points, points, points! Our goal is to finish in division 1 and hopefully win a classic like Mito - Tokyo while we’re getting there. I’m still on the lookout for a stronger Brazilian captain to train so I’m hoping the OCM gods will be on my side.

Finally, the main goal for going 100% Brazilian was to help the national team. Brazil’s last 3 seasons have been our best ever in the World Tour, and Doug Brasil is already his country’s highest points scorer. So it seems like that is going pretty well.

Should be able to reach lower side of top div with that SP team alone, that's where the fun is for a SP team anyway. Hopefully you can improve on that CL team also.
